Half square triangles are one of the basic quilt units I love to play with most. They are relatively easy to make. I prefer using my AccuQuilt. It allows me to quickly cut my scraps into accurately cut pieces. This post gives my favorite dies. If you don’t have an AccuQuilt you can try this method. Once you get your hsts the fun begins. These colorful two tone pieces can be twisted into a kaleidoscope of quilt possibilities. Let me share my recent creative play with half square triangles.
First I cut and made my hsts.
Next I sewed them into units that looked like this. Some of the units were made of gray and bright prints. To others of I added a hst made up of gray and charcoal fabrics.
Then I combined the units into four patches.
Tossed them onto the design wall to make sure my colors where evenly distributed. Because I didn’t want unfinished diamonds I altered the block by adding a plain square to the units that were along the edges. Here are the results.
I thoroughly enjoyed my creative play with half square triangles. So much so that I’ve started another one. I’m switching up the colors and the arrangement of the blocks. Stay tuned. If you are looking for more creative play ideas, try this workshop.
