Discover How to Use Scraps of All Sizes

With scraps that like to multiply like bunnies, it’s nice to have ideas and inspiration on how to use scraps of all sizes.  Whether you are looking for projects that will incorporate your larger chunks.  Wanting ideas for scrappy strips or need solutions for your tiniest bits, today’s post will get your creative juices flowing.

Scrappy Chunks

First ideas for your larger chunks.  I consider these to be anything smaller than a fat quarter but bigger than a charm square.  I sort these scraps by color and keep them in shoe box sized bins.  When a bin gets to the point I can no longer put the lid on it.  I design a project around that bin.  Dream was the result of a too full blue bin.  In My Garden happened when I couldn’t close my green bin. While this Forever Scrap Buster quilt was a way to thin my blacks and grays.

In addition to using your chunks around an overflowing scrap bin, I have a few go to scrap busting blocks.  You can find them here.

Strips & Strings

The next let’s look at ways we can use up leftover strips.  I like to make string blocks.  I have two methods I like.  First is with a foundation. While you can use paper for your foundation.  I HATE removing paper!  Here is what I do instead.  Or you can just skip the foundation completely and do this.  In an attempt to use up leftover strips and strings I made Pasta Please  and  Seven Sisters.  Spiderweb, pineapple and log cabin blocks are another great option for your strips and strings.

Crumbs

My final scrap solution is for your crumbs.  I adore these little bits.  So much so that I wrote a whole book on them.  I also like to use crumbs for applique and pin cushions.  They also work great as star points and legs and beaks for birds.
