Finish Blocks~ Check

Summertime seems to be a slow sewin’ time for me.  To many other fun things to do; day trip to Temple Square, surprise party for DD’s birthday, helping with friend’s daughter’s wedding… the list goes on and on.  Still in short bits of time I squeeze in a little sewing, and little by little things are getting done.  Like all the blocks for my Mary’s Garden quilt.

Now on to the setting triangles.  I’m experimenting with them.  Toying with pieced blocks similar to the borders on the daisy blocks or made fabric like the tulips.  What do you think?

I love it! I think the pieced borders might be fun and make the made fabric tulips stand out a little bit more. I really need to get sewing, like I think just little bits of time here and there is what gets things finished.

Hi, Em, I'm looking at your blog, once in a while, but this time I was overwhelmed with this colorful and refreshing expression of this quilt. You ask for a tip for the setting triangles … I was looking to your quilt for a long time now and I think, perhaps it might be good, replicating the daisy-block such as making a white half square background with one colorful outer border similar the border on the daisy block and with a daisy in it. Oh, I can' t find the right words, I guess. ;S I'm so sorry … The colorful border should be like an outer border and there is no more colored border around … I think, this would lighten up the quilt again and create a flowing changeover. I hope I explained reproducible what I mean. 😉 If not, please contact me … Best regards, Kirsten

Great looking developments on your design wall! Personally, I favor going with a plain fabric for the setting triangles to give the eye a place to rest. It may be a strong color like a tone on tone red, it doesn't need to be an oatmealy thing. Perhaps a bright yellow? But make it something that will tie all the loose ends together to make the quilt a cohesive whole. Shop your stash and see what might make the whole thing sing!

It looks great but I'd want to keep the focus on the flowers so I'd do made fabric triangles in the backing fabric with a border similar to your daisy blocks – but that's just a suggestion….I'm sure it will look great however you finish it
