Guilds

I joined my first about 20 years ago. Has it really been that long? I was a newby. At the time the only quilt I had made was a very simple log cabin. My mom had me make it for what my dad called my hopeless chest. You can see a picture of it here.  I had recently taken a quilting class that was kind of like a block of the month through my church. Each month we learned a different method and a few blocks that used that method. I moved before I finished the class. Fortunately Gayle, from the Middle Sister, was one of my new neighbors.  She graciously invited me to my first guild meeting. 

The group was so kind and willing to help me improve my quilting skills that I’ve been going ever since. I love all that a guild offers. There are challenges. One year the challenge was, I Heard It on Vinyl. The above quilt was my entry based on The Garden Song sung by Peter, Paul and Mary.  Lorri’s quilt won. She chose the Beatles song, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.

There are often sew a longs and classes. This is LaRae’s Scrappy Bear Paw quilt I recently taught at guild.

 Our guild does an ornament exchange every year. I so love this little gingerbread man ornament I once received.

 We also do fabric exchanges. They are a great way to collect a wide range of fabrics. This one was a dotty exchange but we have also done, batiks, eye spy and 30’s.

But the best part of being in a guild is the friends you make. Never a dull moment with this group.
