Last week I taught at the annual Quilt Walk. Their theme this year was, “Live Life in Full Bloom.” I took that to mean flower quilts. So I chose to teach these three quilts.
First my Naughty Garden, a wonky improvisational garden. As a little girl we sang a song at church called, In the Leafy Tree Tops. I thought the words said the flowers were naughty. I’ve since learned that they are nodding. But that little mix up gave me the idea for this quilt. It is one of my favorite classes to teach. Helping quilters learn the fun and freedom of free form piecing. Then seeing them make their own unique quilt is rewarding.
Next I taught Dahlia, a fun play on the majestic mountain block. It may look difficult but is really quite easy. This quilt uses a layer cake, but you could easily use your stash and scraps to make your own. These blocks go together quickly. Giving students a sense of accomplishment. They usually get a few blocks done.
The final class I taught was Posy Parade, another stash and scrap friendly quilt. Or feel free to shop for some pretty fat quarters. As it is fat quarter friendly. It makes a great baby girl quilt. And because it is small it goes together quickly.
