I’m a list kind of person. I make a list every morning of what I want to do each day. I find it helps me stay on task and gives me focus. I find great satisfaction in crossing things off. A little confession. I sometimes add things to my list that weren’t there to begin with just cause I did them and I want to cross them off. As a mom so much of what I do doesn’t look done for very long; the laundry, dinner, housekeeping) So having a list is proof that I actually did something each day. Silly I know but it helps me feel good about each day. Especially those day when I rush like crazy and seem to have nothing to show for it. I also keep a list in my sewing room of projects I’m working on. I make a grid. I have a place for the name of the project, a place to check when it’s cut out, when the blocks are sewn, when they are put together, when the top is done, when it is quilted, and when it is bond. It gives me in a quick glance what I need to work on. Which helps me with my next list. Each week I make a list of things I want to accomplish in my sewing room. I can look at my grid and see what needs to be done and I make a list to further those projects. Yes I’m probably a little OCD. Here is one of those lists. In my quilt guild we make a list of 10 projects each year that we want to finish or at least move a little closer to completion. Then every other month we pick a number and we have two months to finish that project or we owe the guild a fat quarter. Here is my list. I work ahead. But it is a chance thing, cause sometimes the ones I work on are not the ones that get picked.
That happened this time. I had finished almost half of my list I thought I was doing good and then #1 got picked. My #1 is the Christmas Cottages that were giving me grief here. (Thanks to everyone that gave advice. I really appreciate it.) I was about to give up on them and just give the guild a fat quarter. But I had this Nicey Jane by Heather Bailey I thought the twinkles in it would be fun with the Christmas quilt. So I changed the background on the Santas. Used the blue I had for sashing and put the Santas in the corners so my name still works, (A Santa on Every Corner) I sewed on the last border this morning. Now I just need to quilt and bind it. I thinking of a red binding what do you think?
Good job on the lists!
And red binding would be perfect. Red with dots or checks, maybe.
Wow…you are good! I do good to get my grocery list together right before I head out the door to get groceries.
I have never been a list person myself. I don't know why, but maybe because I wasn't brought up by parents woh did it. It would make you realize what you accomplish each day. That might help!!!!
I like the Santa in each corner. Yes, I think red binding would look great.
I am a lister all the way. I do the trick of putting on things I have just done so I can immediately check them off too.
I think the red with white dots that is on the roof of the lower left house would make a beautiful border.
So perfect. I love the santas in the border, you can see them so much better. And the blue is a nice surprise – looks great!
Your Santas in the corners quilt is fantastic. I am not one to make lists. Well, I do, but I rarely follow them. This morning I made a litst of things I had to do and buy while I was out, but I left it at home.
Red would be a perfect binding.
I think a red binding would look great and the quilt looks wonderful. I have been working on my Christmas Cottages quilt too!
I love the lists idea. I do the list thing too but the idea that is new to me is making a list of my quilting projects and checking them off during the process. I love that at a glance you can see where each project is at. And it doesn't seem so overwhelming, just get to the next step and you get to check it off. I am SO going to do this. Thanks, Em!!
I'm a list person too but I hadn't thought of the grid for unfinished projects. I like the concept though so I may try it. Red binding would really make your cottages pop. blessings, marlene
I love that you admit to adding things to your list just so you can cross them off! I do the same thing. You may as well get credit for it, right?
A red binding would be just right!
I am a list person too! I get a good feeling when, I can cross something off. A goal oriented person I suppose.
I love the Santa's in the corners.
i'm a list person too…but i do my listing…the night before…i love to convince myself that i have enough time for "myself" the next day, before i sleep…lol…
I've gotta go back and look at it some more, blow it up. Fantastic. just so fantastic. I love your sashing, I love the boarder and I LOVE the sants in the corner. I can't tell. Are they fussy cut or construction or even applique? They are so so cute.It is a sweet Christmas quilt without going over the top in Tinsel and Glitter. Love it.
yes RED totally go with red. I love this little Christmas quilt!!!!! it's just fabulous!
