Me and Mary Lou

I have admired Mary Lou Weidman’s quilts since I fist discovered them almost ten years ago.  Her style was the inspiration for this, thisand this quilt.  So when I found out she would be at this years Quilt Fest I knew I had to take a class from her.

The first day we learned how to make ‘hoochy’ blocks.

Mary Lou was so like her quilts; bright, happy and so much better in person.

The second day we pictorial blocks.  I just loved Gayla’s face block.

It was a great two days.  I love all the blocks I made.

Can’t wait to see what they become. Now for the winner of the Sew Red Glasses.  Vicki H is our lucky winner.  In her comment she said she was putting them on her wish list.  Guess her wish came true.  Vicki send me your snail mail and I’ll have Joleene get your glasses in the mail.

A few years ago, I "just had to" drive cross country to take a class with Mary Lou at the John C Campbell Folk School – it was a FABULOUS week! So much fun . . . .

I love your blocks, especially that owl. Lucky you, Mary Lou has lots of fans, seeing her quilts you just want to drop everything and go play with fabric. That chicken quilt is one of my favorites.

I remember the first time I saw her quilts at a quilt show. Lots of people kept walking by and just glancing because they didn't like all her cheddar fabric. I stared at them forever! Really fun for you to take the class I'm sure.
