Yesterday was another Meet the Masters day. The artist that I taught was Matisse. I enjoyed my time with the children so much. They really got into doing this project. My only regret was that we didn’t have more time. We took our inspiration from his Beasts of the Sea. I created this sample before hand. First we talked about positive and negative space. And how putting different colors in those spaces change the feel of the picture. Then we drew a sea scape. Then the fun began as we cut shapes for our sea scape. First I had them cut wavy lines in blue and green paper. Then arranged them on their papers.
Then they added other shapes.
I loved watching them get excited as their picture took shape. They really did a great job.
