It is so hard to keep secrets. Especially when you are so excited you can barely contain yourself. FINALLY! I can reveal this little secret. My Modern Gem’s is in the current issue of McCall’s Quick Quilts. (Squeal of joy! Wild happy dance!) To share my joy I’m having a giveaway.
But first let me tell you a little about this quilt. My dad is a rock hound. He makes beautiful jewelry that my daughter and I are often the recipients of. He has passed this love onto my daughter. In fact when she was little she once brought me a metal lunch box full of rocks her grandpa had given her She had sprayed them with water. She said, “Smell this! It’s my favorite sent! Wet rocks!” We still laugh at that.
As a tribute to my dad I designed this quilt. The shapes remind me of the stones he cuts for jewelry. It is made with Flow by Zen Chic for Moda. (Yep, I’m a big Zen Chic fan)

Congrats, and I love the quilt! I, too, am a rock hound ( and sea shells), though I have never smelled rocks. LOL. I love the brilliance of colors in wet rocks and shells. I passed my "rock love" down to my son who is a mining engineer.
I spent two great summers in a lapidary learning how to cut and polish stones. I loved it! I'm glad your daughter is learning it.
