I got some news Thursday afternoon that rocked my world. A friend of my boys was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. I have watched this fine young man grow up. He and his brother and sister were a big part of my children’s lives as they grew up. 21 is far too young to have to deal with the challenges cancer brings. Cancer just sucks.
I got this news just as I was finishing up the quilting on a Quilty Hug, my little way of fighting cancer. Before binding it I hurried to put a Quilty Hug together for my sons’ friend. This kept me from my Friday finish but it was worth it. I had some shew fly blocks in flannel done and mostly sewn together. I finished sewing them together. Then added a border. Cut batting and made a back. I’ll be basting it tomorrow and hope to be able to give this hug by the end of the week.
While in the mode of making backs and cutting batting I pieced a bunch of gray scraps together
to make a back for my yarn bomb trees.
And just because my way of working through bad news is to try to keep busy I also pieced a back for this Quilty Hug that has been waiting to be quilted for some time.

it is very hard receiving news when a young person has cancer I sure hope he will be ok, sometimes life just throws us a curve – I know when we found out about our sisters brain tumor it just shook me, could not comprehend it for awhile. It was like she had just went through a very bad year nasty divorce and a move and then a brain tumor on top of it – why! so lucky for her it was not cancer
So sorry to hear that, but I like your small way of fighting cancer – hugs t you!
Cancer is a scary thing. Especially in someone so young. So nice of you to make him a quilt.

It just makes your heart sink, doesn't it? But you've done a beautiful thing and I know it will be greatly appreciated the times when he needs a 'hug'.
You are an inspiration! I, too, have known young people with cancer, and it is just awful. I hate cancer. The only thing I hate: cancer. It just has to be cured someday.

Sad news, indeed. Sending prayers and healing thoughts. My son-in-law was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia a few months ago so we have been saying lots of prayers lately.
It sure seems like all the cancer patients I have known are usually always cold so I guess it's always good to give quilty hugs!
I'm so sorry to hear you bad news. Seems like it's been a challenging time for lots of people I know. One of my family members has been in ICU for about 5 days. We are taking one-day-at-a-time. Sewing and quilting, knowing that my efforts were going to wrap someone in love really helped me this weekend. Blessings to you and your friends.

I'm so sorry to hear about this young man! Believe me, he will appreciate your quilt! Even 14 months out of treatment, the quilt my Bee made me still lays on the foot of my bed! He as well as all of you will be in my prayers.
