My Scrap Bag Overflowth

Do your scraps seem to multiply when you turn out the lights?  Do your bins mysteriously fill when your not looking?  You’re not alone in this problem.  I’ve heard it from many quilters.  So what do you do when your scrap bag overflowth?  I’ll tell you what I do.  I design a quilt around my abundance of scraps.  This idea came to me through Jacquie.  She mentioned that she would fill a bin with fabric and challenge herself to make a quilt from it.  So I took her brilliant idea and ran with it.

This quilt was made when I couldn’t put the lid on my blue bin.

This one occurred when my lights bin was getting unruly.

And this one I used for our Scrap Happy Summer Challenge button came about when the green bin was threatening to take over.

Now none of these scrappy quilts did much to deplete my scrap bins.  How does that happen?  You use a quilts worth of scraps and all it does is deplete enough of your scraps to allow you to put the lid on.  It goes back to what I originally said.  Those scraps multiply when your not looking.

Your scrap quilts are just wonderful. Perhaps you could start making scrappy backs…

Great quilts! One reason the scrap bins are still full is that they get fluffed up when I'm pulling that great piece out of the bottom. When I'm cleaning up, I actually stomp on my bin to squish down the scraps!

You may be right, I seem to suffer from the same problem, although, look what you have accomplished! All three deserve their own ribbon. The fact that they came from scraps make each quilt even more wonderful ~

Those are all stupendous! That's a great idea. Since I have seen so many cute things made with selvages I can't throw those away either. What's a quilter to do??

What great quilts! I love what you're doing with your scrap bin fabric. I started doing that just last year and you're right, it doesn't seem to deplete the unruly mass much.:) Love how creative your quilts are!

It's because scraps are really like teenagers with an overabundance of hormones……

I have been trying to think of something to make that would lower the scrap baskets contents some. I won't say empty because the only way to do that is to give them to someone else.

My scrap bins are all full. I never thought of sorting them by color. I have been cutting down my scraps into usable sizes for me. But it seems that the more I cut, the more scraps I make. I wonder if I am really getting ahead of the game?
