I made three sets of these Santas to go with my Christmas Cottages for Nanette’sexchange she did a couple of years ago. I thought it would be fun to have them between the houses and call my quilt ‘A Santa On Every Corner.
But when I put them with the cottages on the design wall. I was not thrilled with the effect. I don’t know if it’s because of the background and I would like it better if the background was different. I kept it neutral to go with the neutral background of the houses. Or if it’s because they don’t have faces yet and I like it better when the Santas are jolly and smiling at me.
I’m almost wondering if I should just keep it simple and stick with the blue background?
What do you think?
One day I shall finish my cottages! For now they're in a safe place. I haven't decided how to put them together yet. Have fun with yours.
Very cute!! Try a darker sashing around each house, maybe a Christmas green or red. Just a thought…
I really love the santa idea and the name you have come up with. I hope you can make it work where you are happy with it because your idea is so cute!
I like the Santas, but agree with Karen about using a different sashing.
I love the Santa's also. How about making an outer border with them? Hmmmm, I wonder where mine are?
I like the idea of making a border with the Santas. For me, I think the background used for the Santas is busy next to the cottage blocks. The Santa blocks by themselves look very cute on that background fabric. Maybe try making a Santa block with a different background. Maybe a dark one.
I vote Santa! maybe tie it in with the border???
Yes, I agree with most that the blue sashing is not quite right with Santa. It is a darling idea.
I really like the Santas, but the background on them is a bit too busy for my liking. Using them as a border sounds interesting too.
Hi Em, I'd keep it simple…it looks better. The Santa's look a bit lost. They would look better on another project altogether…and another excuse to keep crafting. Ha Ha. Lovely work though. Kind regards, Anita.
I love the little santas and I like the idea of using them in a border. It may still be too busy with them there, but you should definitely make something with them as they are too cute. What about using them for a pillow?
I think I like coming home to Em. 🙂 I think I love the ideas that you bring forth. So my favorite is the Santa on Every Corner. It's very cute!
Delighted to see you dear friend, delighted. *(love the block that came it the mail. very cool this one. great fabrics, too)
*karendianne.
I vote for santas. maybe some red in the border?
Kris
I am so torn….I super love the blue background, but also love the idea of the title, "a santa on every corner"! Could you use the santas on the back?
Hello! amy from amy's creative side blog sent me your way as we are moving into your area!
Nice to meet you!
I love the Santas on every corner, and how their backgrounds blend with the houses' backgrounds so it looks like a neighborhood instead of individual houses. I'd consider the horizontal sashing in green or snow-patterned fabric so the houses aren't floating in a blue sky.
definately change the sashing to a darker solid colour and my vote goes for santas round the border as I love the cottages on their own – so cute! It's going to be beautiful either way though!
When I saw the cute cottages and the Santas, my first thought was – what a pity that the Santas do not have the same background as the sashing. This blue sashing really appeals to me, it looks fresh and modern. Could you remove the background fabrics from the Santas and add the same blue to them? So they would kind of become part of the sashing?
I love the Santas!
