The media makes me sooo mad. As I sit and sew with the radio on and hear add after add of what I need to buy to make me thin and beautiful. Do I really need to be rail thin, have huge boobs, no stretch marks, and every hair in it’s rightful place to be beautiful? Yes I want to look my best but what the media says is beautiful is not real. What are we teaching our children?Do little girls need to be bombarded by adds telling them if they don’t look like a super model they are not pretty. Do boys need to see women as an object of lust and not for the value they add to society.

I don't even need to watch, I love the dove advertising. They promote real women, you know, the ones who had babies and work for a living, the women with bodies that look lived in.
I totally agree with you. And what's the matter with getting old? Why do we have to pretend we are 25 when we are 65? I think I earned my wrinkles and gray hair.
I think that brain power will last a lot longer than surface looks in the long run.

OK…I've now spent some time at the dove sites. Awesome. What a shame that we've been so brainwashed and that we have such low self esteem. I say every day how I wish my hair, skin, body, etc.etc.etc were different or how I don't like this or that or the other thing. My poor husband has to hear it all and he just doesn't get it…in his eyes, I'm the most beautiful, sexy, desirable woman on earth. Too bad I think he's nuts.
All the media of what they think is beauty, and also all the electronic games are not doing much good for our up coming young men and women, and then people say, "I don't know what to make of this generation/society! So many self esteem and mental health issues, and violence!"
Even if we were to live without TV, radio, electric games, comp, as many families choose to do, we can never totally shield our children from these damaging messages. Bill-boards, magazines, and negative comments will still exist… sad but true… The best we can do is give our children positive messages about their self worth, beauty inside and out, and teach them right from wrong… Which, sadly, many parents do not seem to have time or interest to do… Though, the majority of parents do well by their children…
