Saturday was salsa day at our house. If you’ve read my blog for very long you know my boys love salsa. A bag of chips, a pint of salsa makes for one teenage boys afternoon snack. So we need lots of salsa. Gotta keep those boys growing, cause 6 feet tall is just not big enough, hee hee. So we picked, chopped, simmered and stirred this big pot of salsa.
I joked with Alex that next year we wouldn’t have to make as much cause he would be away at school. ‘Nope, just means you’ll have to make me my own personal supply.’
To which I replied ‘I’d give him the recipe and he could make his own.’
He challenged me to a salsa cook off.
‘OOOOOO, I’m up for that’, I said.
So the challenge is on. I figure I win either way. ‘Cause it’s one less pot of salsa I have to make.
As requested my salsa recipe (remember nothing is set in stone here. Adjust to your own liking or to what you have on hand. Heaven knows I do.)
10 hot peppers
35 lbs. tomatoes
6 onions
3 green peppers
1 garlic clove
3 Tbs. oragino
3 Tbs. cumin
1 bunch cilantro
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. salt
1 c. vinager
Chop up veggies. Add herbs, sugar, salt and vinager. Cook until thick. Process in pint jars for 20 min.
Enjoy it really is yummy!
Oh it looks good.Lucky them,lol.
Happy new week!
do we get the recipe for your salsa?
Oh you are SO SMART – absolutely teach them to make it, lol! Don't forget to teach them to clean up too. *G*
wow that is a lot of salsa! I just do 8lbs of tomatoes and I thought 12 jars a batch was lots you must get over 20 a batch!
Yum, my daughter was just asking if we could make salsa, I said if she finds a recipe, now I have no excuse.
I may have to halve it though as my tomato garden was sad this year.
Thank you for the recipe…it just sounds wonderful!
MY Alex is 13-1/2 and 6'2-1/2". Stunning! I can relate to the need for quantities of food. Have fun! By the way, who won?
Yum! Thanks for the recipe. I am going to try this, but on a smaller scale.
Yummy. This is the first year in a while that I did not make salsa. Still using last years. Love it.
Looks like a BIG pot of salsa. Thanks for sharing your recipe.
Looking good Em! I can almost smell it from here!!! lol!!! Thanks for sharing the recipe! 😎
I have two teenage boys, ages 13 & 15, and this year both hit 6 feet. If they catch up with their shoe sizes (both wearing 12.5 this week) I'm going to need a lot of salsa! Looking forward to trying out your recipe.
