Don’t let his looks fool you. He is quite the attack dog. At least when it comes to garbage trucks, and that made for a very exciting morning this morning. Just as it was time to leave for school, DD heard the garbage truck and noticed that the boys had forgotten to take the garbage out. I rushed out to make sure we were not left with a stinky can full of the weeks yuck. I got it out to the curb just as the garbage truck was finishing next door. DD opened the door to leave for school and out ran Spike determined to defend me from this garbage eating creature. I don’t know what this seven pound dog thought he could do against this monstrous being but he was fearless. And no amount of persuasion from me was going to draw him away from this intruder. He was determined to defend his family and their garbage. Fortunately the driver just stayed put and enjoyed the show. I’m sure it was the highlight of his morning, as I chased my ferocious dog. Fortunately a neighbor drove by and stopped as soon as she opened her car door Spikes love of a ride in the car overtook his desire to defend me from the garbage truck and he jumped in her car. I will be forever grateful to her. Not only did she save Spike she saved me from further embarrassment. I think one of the hearts I made in the previous post has found a home. I brought Spike in to find DD crying, afraid she had just about killed her beloved dog. She had watched the whole seen afraid Spike was going to be crushed by the garbage eater at any moment and sure it was all her fault. My poor tenderhearted daughter needed some extra love. Needless to say we were late for school this morning.

Oh my, your poor daughter! I'm crying just thinking of her and how horrid she must have felt. Little dogs have no clue they are little! The stinkers. I hope Spike gave her lots of doggie kisses.
Your hearts are fabulous and I think I need to make a few for some of my valentines.
What a story. I would say to my kids, see what happens when we forget to put out the garbage. Although in our house we have a big dog who is everyone's friend. I'm sure your house is much better protected than mine.
Ah, and he does look contrite.
Your heart blocks are so cute and I want to try to make some myself. Maybe a project for this evening!
What a start to your day!!!!! Glad it all turned out okay in the end.
felt sorry for your DD but have to admit to laughing out loud over this story, I had to read it twice!
must have been hysterical watching him trying to defend you!
a 7 lb dog against a few ton truck!
have to love his spirit!
Spike is a cutie! I have a chihuahua (about 5 lbs) who thinks she's a bulldog … but you gotta love them! I'll bet from now on the garbage will get taken out! What a story!
So, after that exciting beginning, what did you do with the rest of your day! I loved your story. Sorry to hear that DD was so upset. I am sure she will see the comedy of this event in the future. And, what the heck! It's a good excuse to be late for school!
Oh Em bless your daughter and we're so, so happy our little buddy is safe!…(don't even want to go there) and thankful for the wonderful neighbor and gosh, the garbage man. He needs some cookies! We have a week. Let's get crackin'. 🙂 hee heh No, I'm being silly but seriously – there's nothing like some morning adrenaline to start the day off. Y'all did it up in fine fashion with fear, sunken hearts and tears. Whew. I bet we sleep well tonight. Hugs my friend, big hugs.
Oh Emily. We too have a 7 lb. dog that is #1 in the family with most everyone. This is one of my greatest fears. Because this is exactly what he would do. Their personalities sound like twins.
Spike probably thinks he's really a rottweiler, they could take on that garbage monster no worries! Kind regards, Anita.
Hello Em, enjoyed your post about Spike…I bet you felt like throttling him…LOL…you have to love the spunk in that little dog…Hugs Lyn
Thank goodness for the promise of car rides! We've got a little girl who acts the same way. Your poor daughter! She may need more hugs than Spike:) And kudos to the garbage man, too!
what talented guild members
your poor dd but what a brave spike! amazing how the tinier they are, the more protective they are…
What a wonderfully written post! Your daughter is indeed tenderhearted and isn't that wonderful….she can SHOW her feelings! I hope she doesn't change. Three cheers for your protector and 4legged best friend!
