My heart is sad today. I lost some one I love yesterday. Christian was an almost twelve year old that lived two doors down from me. Our families have been friends for years. We barbecue in the summer. I quilt with his mom and sister. My boys are good friends with his older brother. I was his primary teacher at church when he was younger and made this quilt for him then. It made me so happy that he loved it so and decorated his whole room around it.
Christian’s life was not easy. He was born with spina bifida and has had many other health problems, but he was a fighter and a joy to his friends and family. I will miss saying hi to him while walking by his house. He would often be out in his wheelchair playing baseball with his nurse. He would bat while his nurse threw pitches. He was a tease and often made me laugh.
Good bye Christian; you are an awesome maverick star!
I am so glad he had the quilt you made for him to enjoy…so sorry he is not there to wave to you.
That was not an easy life, but it was made easier by those who showed him love. He really was a perfect Maverick Star.
I am so sorry for your loss!
It is a touching blogpost. Thank you.

Perhaps Christian's parents will find comfort in that loving quilt. So very sorry to hear your sad news.
My heart is with you Em. My husbands cousin, who we visited with just last night, also has Spina Bifida. In fact, he was a March of Dimes Poster Child in his youth. Now in his 50's he certainly has undergone so much in his life.
I know your quilt will help bring comfort to this family that you have been so close to. My prayers are with you all.
A wonderful scrappy quilt. RIP Christian.
