Trip Down Memory Lane

My dear daughter likes to look through my cedar chest, or as my dad liked to call it my hopeless chest. It no longer stores china and the like from when I was a girl instead it holds treasures from my heart. Things my children have made, their old school work and left over pictures from school picture packets. Hence the reason DD likes to look through it. Well she had rummaged through to the point that it had become quite a mess. So I enlisted her help and we cleaned it out. I made a pile for each child. Then found a box to fit their things in. Now in the bottom of my chest is a box containing the memories of how each child has grown. While sorting through all these precious treasures I found a few forgotten treasures. I used to cross stitch a lot when I was in high school and college. I found this quilt top that I had cross stitched blocks for. I made it for when I had a little girl. Well I completely forgot about it. I made it before I was even married. After marrying my prince charming I proceeded to have three wonderful sons. So when my sweet daughter finally arrived I had forgotten about this top. I told her we’ll have to save it for her little girl. Here are a few of the blocks.

And a couple more.

We also found this quilt that my maternal grandmother made for me when I was little. I had to be very little because I don’t really remember my maternal grandmother. She passed away when I was about three. It is hand quilted and I love the blocks that she colored for me. Isn’t this scarecrow so cute.

Look at these sweet little guys.

I love this treasure of a quilt. I wish it were not falling apart.

It must have been so much fun going through the hope chest. My dad also called mine the "hopeless chest". Little did he know!!!!!

I hope that your daughter will have a granddaughter for you so you can get those beautiful crossed stitched pieces out of storage.

Don't forget that quilt the next time you need it! Maybe your daughter will remember. It's so cool that you have your own baby quilt from your grandma.

Well it certainly was a treasure box! I had one when I was a girl in Nebraska that my grandfather made me, but I left it with my sister when I emigrated to Oz. Now she has two little girls and a box each for them…

I love the fact that you have so much of this in your personal history. I can't imagine what that feels like "on the inside." I can't imagine how special it is for your daughter to know this is coming down to her! 🙂

It truly is a treasure chest in many ways. Those precious, altho faded pieces of days long gone by. Each one it's own snapshot of a time in your life. And how very wonderful to have those treasures, a daughter to share them with and the stories that link each of them to you, and thus, to her. *VBS* Very precious indeed. Hugs, Finn
