Scrap quilts always make me sentimental. Going through the scrap bin and remembering quilts past makes for a fun trip down memory lane. As I prepare for my first Scrap Squad quilt I decided to go with a masculine theme. Since my boys all want this quilt I thought I would play with the same color scheme.
I pulled a bunch of red. Bits from my Florence quilt, a Christmas project, and a tribute quilt to my Grandpa Harry.
Then some grays. Leftovers from my Double Wedding Ring, Merry Jane, and a few more.
Finally a few blacks. Not many scraps left there. I used most of them up in Be the Good. I might not even use these. Now that I see them all together I’m worried they won’t read dark enough and be to similar to the grays.
What are your thoughts? Should I use them or just use a tone on tone black?
You do have lot of dark gray. They sort of blend with that.
I would use them, the scrappier the better I think.
Love the colors, but think you might want to supplement with some stronger black to balance. Looks like it will be a beautiful quilt no matter which way you go!
Thanks for sharing..
Jo 🙂
I'd either remove the darker greys from the grey pile or use a strong black, otherwise there is a risk of losing the distinction. Enjoy 🙂
From the look of the pictures, I would combine the grey and several from the black stack as one then use a strong sold black for your black contrast. I can't tell by the picture if this would work or not. I always loved scrap quilts the best.
