If you are new here welcome! Today I’m part of Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks blog tour. This is my block.
One of my favorite things about designing and teaching is see how different the same pattern can look just by changing fabric and value. So I thought it would be fun to share my block done up in several colorways, First I tried it in black and white with a splash of red. I like how this makes it more sophisticated.
Next I tried the bright bold colors of Zen Chic’s For You. They are my favorite. This gives it a bright cheerful feel.
I also tried batiks by Pat Sloan, for an island feel.
Finally I took my original block and added sashing and corner posts fir a modern feel.
I believe the possibilities are endless. Multiply that by 100 blocks and your bucket list just grew exponentially. I have a magazine available as a prize to get you started.
Tell me what colorway you would use for my block for a chance to win. Enjoy the rest of the blog hop. I’ll pick a winner next Tuesday. Good luck and happy sewing.
I like the bottom one with sashing, it looks great!
I am in love with tha batik one! Such a great block! Congratulations!
I liked the Zens Chic fabrics best, it is so nice and bright! Blessings, Gretchen – villacrestfarm[at]gmail.com

Great block! I live the black, red and gray version!
Beautiful block.I love the bright bold colors of Zen Chic's and for me navy, orange and aqua.
Awesome Block. I can see so many possibilities. Since I am a scrappy quilter, I think I would use the black and white where you did, but use scraps for the rest. Thank you for the giveaway.
I like to see different colorways and I am drawn to the Gray, Red & Black quilt option.
I like the bights with sashing. It appeals to my scrappy sensibilities. Great design!

Controlled scrappy is my choice, set with the sashing and cornerstones for orderliness. Oh, I know! Each block could be a different color of the rainbow! Hmmm, I will keep this in mind for next years rainbow quilt challenge!
I can see myself making it really scrappy, using the colours of your block at the top of the post. But using scraps of fabric to make it. Love it!
Of these four, I like the Zen Chic's For You best. Thank you for offering this giveaway!
I love bright fabrics and have tons of scraps so a bright scrappy look would be my choice. Great block!
I'd use my favorite southwest colors.
I like the Black, white and red the best. 24Tangent[at]gmail.com
I would make your block in teal, purple and blue
I love the batiks sample- the floating effect hits my button.
Congrats on having your block in Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks. I love these editions. I think the Zen Chic look grabs me first. This could also look cute with novelty fabrics. Thank you for the sweet giveaway!
So pretty and congrats ♥
Congratulations, Em. I'd love to see it done in greens and aquas.
My favorite colors which are Purple and Green. I do like me some orange too. 🙂 Congrats!
Light gold/tan, emerald green and rich chocolate (brown with a hint of burgundy).
Wow, what a fun block with so many possibilities! I'd like to see it w/ a white background and teal, lavender and lime. cknapp3626(at)sbcglobal(dot)net
I think a red white and blue colorway would be great. QOV ideas are always great.
I really like the idea of going bright scrappy with a low volume print for the larger squares and a white or light grey for the background.
I'd do it in purple's and greens!
Love the block – could very easily be a stash buster for all the bright fall colors (red, yellow, orange)in my bin.
Brown background with plum and orangey-yellows? Sounds good in my head.
I'd love to see this block in batiks with purples and aquas.
I love the original lock, done in solids, so modern.
Congratulations! this would be a perfect block for a mans quilt. I would use burgundy, greys and plaid.

Boy this block has the potential to really use up some scraps! I think the design with Pat Sloan's batiks looks great. Thanks! mceddins@austin.rr.com

Great block!
I'd love to try a rainbow version!
The Zen Chic version is my definite favorite.
I am really enjoying the blue/yellow/little bit of green combo right now!
I like the batik version – but I think it would work with scraps as well.
I think this would be a fantastic design to do fussy cutting with, in an ISpy fashion. I can just see lots of bug prints, trucks and monster's in a lot of places in the design.
I like the colors you used for you block, for mine I would use the primary colors of red, yellow blue and green with the black and white background. Thanks for sharing your idea.

My motto has always been the brighter the better! I love colors that pop!

Great block. I would make it scrappy or with solids. Love it!! Thanks.
I would go with really bright prints or solids on a black background.
I do like the black strips used here, but would probably go with bright rainbow colors as well. Black and grey would be cool, too, with a fussy cut floral in place of the white squares.
I would like to try aqua, lime green, navy, and white. I would go scrappy with lots of different prints in those colors.
Of the blocks you shared I still like the clean lines of the black and white, with splashes of color. Kathy in colo repzjratplainsdotnet

I'd try to make that in red, royal blue, and black. My dd13 wants such a quilt & I'm trying to figure out how to do it without a patriotic effect or losing the blue and black. Your block might work! Kimberly of LaunderedCotton at gmail dot com
being a scrap quilter myself, I would just have to do that one scrappy in brights on a dark background.
I think red/white/blue would make a cute quilt.
Mine would be scrappy with white and black as maine colors…. happyness04431[at]yahoo.com

I would use a scrappy version of your quilt as my scraps seem to be taking over my storage closet..your block would be wonderful using all of those beautiful pieces of fabric. Thank you so much for sharing your talent and your block with us.
How fun your block is – it looks like a perfect block for a baby quilt. I so enjoy reading all the blogs on the hop :o) My block, Order in the Court, is also in Volume 14, so no need to include me in your drawings, I just wanted to stop by and say, "Hi!"

I like the black, gray, white and red colorway, but I might try it in a green, purple, white and gold colorway.
I was drawn to the black, white and red quilt but really like the rainbow of colors too.
Oh I think it would look wonderful with a solid black background and lots of bright colored fabrics and sashing blocks.
for a colorway, I like how your zen's chic looks, though I've yet to be brave enough to use gray in a quilt.
Zen Chics new line called True Blue I think would be great since blue is my favorite color.
Congratulations on a great block!
I like it in solids!… I see it in lots of blues, teals! (Think water and sky…?)

I would like to do grays, teal and orange. tljeo at yahoo dot com
I like your last color combo!
I would try red, white, and blue. This is really an intriguing design. It looks fairly easy to make, but makes a complicated design.
I'm liking those batiks alot!
I like the Zen Chick colors, but I think that I am truly a scrappy girl at heart and would be hitting my stash and just work with the same values rather than using the same fabrics.
I like the last version with sashing and cornerstones. Thanks for the chance to win.
joyecox[at]yahoo.com
I like the black, white and red, but it was hard to choose, they all are gorgeous
I too love playing with colors. if you're going for a design, make it shine!
I actually like the Zen Chic version….I like the organized secondary pattern that shows up!
reillyr2(at)hotmail(dot)com
I love Grunge so I would start with the ash grey and build from there
Love the gray one but right now I am into purple and lime green. Thanks for the chance to win, since Hasting's closed there are no local places less than 60 miles to get magazines.
This would be great with all scraps. Maybe one constant
I think I would do this block in bright colors and use the largest square as a place for an "I Spy" fabric — a cute quilt for a child.
quiltschon@att.net
I like the black, white, and grey, but with either lime green or teal instead of red.

Sorry for the delete and now the corrected response. I am partial to the 'sophisticated' color way. I love the classic color choices and that the design with these colors doesn't appear too busy for my eye.
I love the tutorial and saying. My colors are the black and white and I would add some red.
