Tuesday Tutorial ~ Go Cutter

I’m so excited to finally have an AccuQuilt Go! I’ve put off getting one because I was worried about waste. I threw caution to the wind, bit the bullet, jumped in with both feet and I’m so glad I did. It arrived Friday, and after spending a little time on theAccuQuilt’s YouTube Channel, I was ready to give it a Go.  Hee hee!

I started with cutting 2 1/2″ strips. In no time at all I had a project box full with one project.

Then I filled another project box with a low volume quilt, with a few splashes of color thrown in.

I have a few retreats coming up and I want all my cutting done so I can just sew. With the Go I’ll have it done in no time. Do you have a Go? What are your favorite dies? Do you have any tips? I’d love to hear them. Also here’s a little teaser for my episode of Love of Quilting. Please note I’m no actress,

I’m best sewing by myself in my basement. That really is my comfort level. Mostly I’m a nerd. But I do really love this quilt and the techniques I used to create it. So if you ignore my lack of acting skills and just learn the methods it should be good. If your in Utah the episode will air Thursday at 4:30 p.m. and again on Saturday at 6:30 a.m. on channel 9. If you live elsewhere check your channel listing.

My most favorite die is the small tumbler. I use it to cut my scraps when I am done cutting projects and the pieces all go into a big bag. They make the cutest baby quilts when I need one in a hurry and I can mindlessly sew them together because I don't have to worry about making sure I have a quarter inch overhang. It's right there already with the corners clipped. I have way too many dies but love them all. Jusst bit the bullet and purchased the alphabet dies.

I do have a die cutter – the Sizzix Big Shot Pro. With the use of a thin metal sheet, I am able to use all of the GO dies. I think the HST dies are the ones I use the most often (with and without flying geese). Waste is not waste to me – I just trim off the skinniest bits and drop the rest in the crumb boxes – more food for scrappy projects!

I am a Total Newbie Also! I've seen them for years and My husband surprised me with a fabulous package of dies and the Go! I am looking forward to hearing and seeing more of what you do with yours. I opted out of getting the Strips die. Did it save time? was there much waste? Curious? I've used the floral cut outs and I like them…. but again, I dislike the waste I had. But gosh! Sure does save time with the cutting! I must watch the you tube links!
    Thank you for sharing!

So what did you decide about "waste"? I'm on the fence, too.
    Thanks for the video.

I just use the 2.5" strip die to get lots cut and make various donation quilts (especially Bonnie Hunter's Trip around the Block quilts!).

You will love it with all of the quilting you do, Emily.

I love it for half square triangles the 2" finished size. It's going to make a great scrap quilt. It is much faster than any other way. If you pay attention to how you lay it out, you won't have much waste.
