My oldest son, Alex transferred to the University of Utah to study engineering this fall. I had some blocks I needed to test for an upcoming project. I noticed one, that is meant to be a horseshoe, when I turned it upside down made a perfect University of Utah U. So rather than have these blocks end up in my orphan bin. I made them in the school colors and created a giant pillow. It measures 24″ square.
All the fabric is from my stash and I quilted the pillow top using some leftover batting from other projects. I did purchase a pillow form from JoAnn’s using a coupon. So for very little out put I have a fun gift for my future engineer.
To celebrate this thrifty finish I’m linking up with Sarah.
Cute make and what a great way to recycle those blocks
Great way to use some test blocks 🙂
What a good idea for the blocks, he will love it.I am makeing a quilt for my grandson now as he goes away to University in the New Year.
The horseshoe works perfectly as a "U". Great idea.
Very nice Em. I've had two daughters graduate from the University of Utah. I even made one of the a U quilt with fabric from their logo.
Ooh! I love it!
