WAGI~ Garland

It’s Wednesday and time for another Great Idea.  Today’s feature comes from Make and Take. A cute ribbon and clothes pin garland to help you display the Christmas cards that are arriving at your house.  Isn’t it just festive.  The cute buttons on the clothes pins just make me smile.  You can find the tutorial to make your own here.

If you are looking for a scrappy garland for your tree I have a tutorial here. Today’s recipe is thanks to my mom and Aunt Darlene.  I got the recipe out of our family cookbook.  They both had a entry the only differences were my mom’s said it was doughnuts but could be used for cinnamon rolls or dinner rolls.  And my Aunt’s was for basic potato dough good for dinner rolls, cinnamon rolls and doughnuts.  Anyway I didn’t know who to give credit to so I’m giving it to both.  But because I’m not so good at following directions I make mine into cinnamon raisin bread.  That and a loaf of bread is a lot easier than rolls or doughnuts.

CINNAMON RAISIN BREAD

1/2 cup mashed potatoes

2 cups milk

1/2 cup oil

1/3 cup sugar

1/2 cup cold water

2 eggs (beaten)

2 1/2 T yeast

1/2 T salt

6-7 cups flour

Scald potatoes, milk, oil and sugar.  Add water; let coll to lukewarm.  Add eggs and yeast, soften until it bubbles.  Blend in salt and flour.  Dough will be sticky.  Let it rise until it doubles.  Punch down; roll out into desired shapes.    Let rise.  For doughnuts or scones, fry at 375*, for rolls bake at 350* for 15 minutes

For the bread this recipe makes 2 large loaves.  I divide the dough roll out into a rectangle brush with melted butter, sprinkle generously with cinnamon sugar and raisins.  Roll up, pinch to seal and place in greased loaf pan.  Bake at 350* for 40 minutes.
