There is just something special about a bunch of little pieces coming together to make something beautiful. I love how the no one piece makes a major contribution but somehow a big impact is made. It is a visual reminder that small efforts have an impact. That may be why I love scrap quilts. This is not only true with quilts but also in life. Let me give you an example.
A few weeks ago I woke up to a text from Allie, one of the young women at my church. Her work was going to throw away a bunch of bread, because it would be day old. Allie is environmentally conscience and didn’t want it to go to waste. So she got permission to take it. She found out that the food bank she was planning on donating it to would be closed for a few days. Her text asked if I had any ideas on where she could donate it. My first thought was no. Then I remembered an Instagram post from my friend, Ben. He had mentioned volunteering at a ministry to feed the homeless called Fill the Pot. I found the post and contacted the ministry.
They said they could use the food but it needed to be delivered within the hour. I called Allie. She didn’t pick up. So I left a jumbled message. Then called her mom. Thankfully she picked up and I was able to give her the information. I was sad that a previous engagement would keep me from helping.
Allie and her mom jumped in her car with a trunk full of food and headed to the ministry. As a result many mouths were fed.
Life Lesson
I’m grateful to have seen how God works with many to bless his children. That though my part was small it made a difference. I loved being able to see that Ben’s post planted a seed. The Reverend’s hard work brought resources together. Allie’s initiative saved food and help others. Her mom’s time got the food where it could help. It is so true that out of small and simple things come to pass.
Don’t think you have to do something big to have a big impact. Your small efforts may feed thousands. Just like the small scraps in your quilt warm everyone they touch. Hope this little grateful ramble helps you and the world be a better place.
Aw, that’s a lovely story!
