I finished my winter trees just in time to get it photographed before another winter storm arrives. I’m thrilled with how it turned out and think it looks lovely in this winter setting. I’m not even in the least bit sad that more snow is on it’s way. I love that too! Winter is my favorite season.
It took me a minute to decide how I was going to quilt it. I was leaning toward doing wood grain but had to look through my continuous line boardon pinterest just to make sure that was what I wanted. When I saw this combination of organic lines and leaves I knew I had found a winner. I feel the wavy lines has the wood grain feel and I just loved the thought of leaves in my winter forest. I know that makes little to no sense, since there are no leaves on winter trees. But it is what I wanted and if you can get what you want why not do it?
If your interested in the process you can find it here. I used a fat eighth pack of Black Tie Affair by Basic Grey for Moda. Linking up withSarah, Lizzy, and Amanda Jean to celebrate my first finish in 2016.
i've followed the process and am gobsmacked by the outcome! really nice!
Gorgeous quilt! You did a lovely job. Congratulations on the finish…and enjoy your snow!
You are so spot on with the quilting choice. It's like the last of those leaves that float around in a winter wind. Beautiful piece and great start to the new year!
Beautiful! I love the trees and looking outside…it looks like my back yard! Well done!
I love it, so pretty.
That is fabulous and that quilting is perfect for it.

Saw this last night on Pinterest. Lovely work, Em! The quilting is perfect and what a fun way to celebrate winter. Fall is my favorite season but I've realized I love January 🙂 It's such a relief after the holidays 😉 and feels so good to start a new year!
Great finish. The quilting is perfect!
That is a beautiful quilt! I love how you did the quilting. Great job!
Great winter photo of a great winter quilt! The leaves in the quilting must be the "Spirit Leaves" that have already passed on but are warmly remembered.
Fabulous finish. I think the quilting pattern you chose is a great choice. Love how the leaves appear to be falling.
Your improv trees have inspired me. Wonderful!
So beautiful, Emily! And the quilting is perfect!

Great quilt! And thanks for all the pins on Pinterest!!
Lovely quilt Em, and I am seriously envious at the sight of your snow – no proper winter here, just rain and mud.
Thank you for linking up with Free Motion Mavericks!
Love, Muv
I think the leaves in the quilting is like the spirit of the leaves, or the memory of leaves. That is what remains in the winter. Beautiful.
