I recently had a quilter comment on how different Sunshine on a Cloudy Day looked in various colorways. One of my favorite things about teaching my patterns is seeing how students fabric choices impact the quilt. Today I thought I’d share that fun. I’ll show how this one pattern in multiple colorways creates a totally different looking quilt.
The original quilt was made using Moda’s Bella Solids. I chose steel for the background and then a rainbow of bright happy colors to make the star.
The second time I made this quilt, two of my sons had moved out and the third one told me they had taken all the man quilts. So I pulled more masculine colors along with various low volume prints. Next I added flying geese and charm square borders to the top and sides to make it big enough for my 6 foot tall son. 
In preparation for a class I made it a third time. This time I went with a scrappy navy background and various scrappy bright prints. I do love navy backgrounds with bright scrappy prints. I think this quilt has been the reason the pattern has been so popular. 
Finally I would like to share Donna, one of my student’s quilts. She chose block and white fabric with a few splashes of red for color.
