Healing Through Quilting

I love quilting for so many reasons.  One of the big reasons is the healing quilting can bring.

I saw this while struggling with my auto-immune disease.  I found that when I would sit and sew my body relaxed and my health would improve just a little.  Today I would like to share another story of healing through quilting today.

A few months back I got an email asking about my Posy Parade quilt pattern.  The writer, Jacque was wondering if this was my pattern? She inquired if I had taught her mother this quilt in one of my classes.  As I looked through my records I found that I had.  And when I saw a picture of her mother I remembered her.  We emailed back and forth.  She told me her story and I filled in details about her mother’s quilt.  It was one of those rewarding moments I enjoy as a quilt teacher.

I was sad to hear that her mother had passed away.  Jacque told me she was trying to finish her mother’s unfinished quilts.  One of which was the Posy Parade quilt.  Jacque had not been a quilter prior to her mother’s death.  She said at first she wanted to just give all her mother’s quilting things away.  But her Aunt Donna had encouraged her to keep them.  And eventually to start finishing them.

Imagine my delight when Jacque shared her mother’s Posy Parade quilt that she had finished.  She told me she felt close to her mother as she sewed almost like she was guiding her and cheering her on.

Added bonus for me Jacque took my Wishes class at Winter Retreat this year at Bryce Canyon.  These are her blocks.  I’m so happy she is finding healing through quilting.

I’d love to help you on your quilting journey see where I’m teaching live.
