22 Scrap Friendly Blocks 1 Awesome Sampler Quilt

I have a hard time making the same block over and over again.  I tend to make those kind of quilts as my leaders and enders projects.  Instead I like to make a collection of blocks that will fit together in a sampler quilt.  I’ve had a lot of fun sewing up twenty two scrap friendly blocks.  Stack of quilt blocks with Dutchmen's puzzle on top

As I played with quilt block ideas I focused on a couple of classic blocks, the pinwheel and the quarter log cabin.  Then I mixed things up by playing with sashing and strip sets to give each block a fun and contemporary feel.  A group of scrappy quarter log cabin blocks

While I like a scrappy background I felt that route would make this quilt too busy.  Instead I opted for two different backgrounds a light gray and a polka dot black.

Next I pulled out my scrap bins and started pulling out bright happy bits in red, pink, purple, blue, green, yellow and orange.  Knowing that these bright fabric pieces would pop against both backgrounds.

Once I had my plan the real fun began.  As I chose which scraps to put in each block.  Carefully cut up my pieces. (Careful cutting is the first step in successful piecing.) And started stitching up each block.  Sometimes making a few of one block to add balance and uniformity to the quilt.Bright, colorful quilt blocks on a lawn

Finally I sewed all my blocks together.  Viva Color is the result.Colorful scrap quilt next to a fence
