Christmas In July Handmade Gift Ideas

While it’s hot outside I like to retreat to the cool of my sewing room and whip up a few gifts.  Not only do I stay cool, I relieve the stress that can happen during the holidays when the rush of what to give hits.  If I’ve already have homemade gifts ready to give.  I can enjoy the season a little more.  If you are looking for handmade gift ideas.  You’re in the right place.

Staying Warm

Stock up now on handwarmers to fill stockings and keep those you love warm.

Another way to prepare for the cold and keep those you love warm is a rice bag.  I’ve designed one that has a removable cover.  I found they would get dirty.  But you couldn’t wash them without ruining them.  So this was my solution.rice bag with friendship star quilt block cover

Bag Ideas

Everyone has stuff to carry so a bag is a great gift idea.

This simple drawstring bags are great.  My grandson uses his to carry cars and toys.  They are also great to throw a book in to read at the beach or on the go.  Three patchwork drawstring backs on a wood deck with ivy.

While the circular bottom drawstring bag is just like the one my son uses for his chalk when he goes climbing.

A zipper pouch is perfect for art supplies.  We keep our colored pencils in one.  I have friends who use theirs for make up and hair ties.  Three zipper pouches

Hobbies & Interests

A personalize journal makes a lovely gift.  I like to use composition books.  I use the graph style for my quilting friends.  So they can sketch up ideas.  Blank books are great for children and artists.  While lined ones are great for just about anyone who likes to journal, collect thoughts, or keep ideas.  Learn how to make 3 different styles here.  My Quick Win pattern is also helpful.  Use any of the small blocks from my sampler booklets to add that special touch. Adding a handmade bookmark to a special book also makes a nice gift for the bookworm on your list.

Hot pads are great for the chef or baker you’re gifting.

Try a quilt as you go style, oven mitts, or my Quick Win hot pad pattern. Quilted oven mitts in baking dish on quilt.

Pincushions are great for your sewing friends.  There are so many possibilities.  I like to harvest my lavender now.  Dry it and add it to the pincushion.  So my friends can enjoy the fresh, relaxing scent year round.  Learn how I do it here.
