Quilt blocks are not just for your quilts. Did you know you can take your patchwork quilt blocks and turn them into wearables. It’s fun and fashionable. I’ve dabbled in this a little but was truly inspired when I received pictures of a student’s jacket using blocks from my Enchanted Forest pattern.
Quilt blocks work well in clothing. They allow the maker to add personality and style to skirts, dresses, pants and more. Just as I have used tiny fabric scraps to make crumb fabric. Quilt blocks can be used as fabric in clothing pieces. Making them wearable art.
I was grateful Mary sent pictures of her process. Showing how she arranged the quilt blocks and cut out her jacket pieces.
This has inspired me. I see more patchwork clothing in my future. While Mary’s jacket may seem intimidating you can start small. However you can start small. Try adding a pocket to your clothing with my Quick Win Pocket pattern.
Or applique a quilt block onto a sweatshirt. I used the Ferris wheel block from my Summer Nights booklet on this sweatshirt.
Or this video is perfect for beginners. All you need is a t-shirt and a quilt block.
