I have a hard time making the same block over and over again. It gets boring for me. One of the ways I beat that boredom is to make quilts that use more than one block. Today I’d like to share scrap busting two block quilts. Making a two block quilt allows me to switch between blocks. Making them scrappy gives me a variety of colors and fabrics to work with.
Two Block Quilt Ideas
For instance, in my popular A Bushel & A Peck. I combined a X and an O block representing hugs and kisses. This quilt was named from the song in the musical Guys and Dolls.
Speaking of music, the second two block quilt I’d like to share is Rhythm & Blues. I created this quilt for my youngest son, who was a drummer in a blues band. I use various blue fabric to create the two blocks.
Modern Gems uses a variation of a plus block and a snowball block. I love how these two blocks set on point to create a fun design representative of the jewelry my father makes.
Similarly, Just Desserts combines a 16 patch with a drunkard’s path in this scrap friendly quilt. I chose these blocks to symbolize the cakes and pies I have enjoyed from my grandpa’s bakery.
While Bee Line takes the kaleidoscope block and combines it with a twist of a snowball block. I love the alternate pattern this creates. Making the snowball block appear to be the center of a star.

Ways to Play & Learn
Quilt shops can now find my patterns at EE Schenck and Checker.
Finally, the two block quilt I like to play with most is Jacob’s ladder. In my on demand workshop, Ladder to Scrappy Success, I share to twist and turn this classic block to create 12 different quilt layouts. In addition you’ll learn how playing with color and value empowers you to create your own scrappy Jacob’s ladder quilts. Treat yourself to some scrappy play.
