Last fall I had a post on back to school supplies for quilters. You can find it here. Since then I’ve discovered more ways to stock your sewing room with back to school supplies. So in addition to glue, notebooks and scissors shop the back to school sales for these items.
First, pencil cases and storage boxes. These organizational tools are great for storing fabric, especially the see through ones. They make it easy to see what you have. Making it easier to find things as well as eliminating the problem of forgetting what you have. I use the under the bed type to house my yardage and shoe box size for my scraps.
I like to use pencil cases for small on the go projects. They fit nicely in my bag. Enabling me to keep my hands busy on flights and long car drives (I let my hubby drives) Or while waiting for appointments.
Desk & drawer organizers are a back to school supply that can make your time in your sewing room more productive. Keeping your scissors, seam ripper, and rotary cutter handy. Rather than having to pat down your sewing area playing hide and seek with these important tools.
A calculator is nice to keep on hand for the times a little quilting math is in order.
Jumbo binder clips are a great way to hold layers of a quilt in place while basting. You can learn how I do it here. While smaller binder clips can be used in place of pins when making bags or sewing binding on by hand. I also like to use them to hang quilts when I photograph them in nature.
Sticky notes are great for marking ideas in quilt books and magazines. As well as keeping track of block pieces or quilt rows.
Finally a box of band-aids are nice to have on hand for occasional accidents. We are after all practicing dangerous crafts and don’t want to bleed on our fabric.
I hope this help you stock your sewing room with back to school supplies and save a little money in the process.
