I remember my mom crocheting granny squares for afghans growing up. And while I know how to crochet it is not something I spend a lot of time doing. Quilting on the hand I do a lot of. So I took this classic pattern and made a cute little quilt. Now I’ve taken it a step further and created a Granny Square Tutorial.
If your worried about your points matching up. just add sashing. Wha la a quick easy fix and you still get a cute quilt. Though matching points are not the end all be all. Do your best and know your quilt will be loved. You can also combine this block with other blocks for a totally different look. Like I did with my Ziggy Granny. You will also notice this quilt in the background of my video.
It is so easy to change the size of your block using my method. You simply change the size of your strips. I used jellyroll strips. Mostly because they are already cut. For someone who finds cutting the necessary evil, reducing the amount of time I spend doing it is a must. You could also use honey buns or cut strips the size you desire. Find great pre-cuts from the Fat Quarter Shop. or Connecting Threads. Or use your strip dies and an Accuquilt Go.
What ever method you use to create your strips this is a fun easy block to make. You can whip up a bunch in an afternoon. Watch my Granny Square Tutorial video to learn how.
