5 Quick, Easy & Cute Hot Pads to Make

Who can’t use a hot pad?  Even if you don’t bake or enjoy preparing meals sometimes that plate is hot out of the microwave.  So whip up one of these 5 quick, easy & cute hot pads.  Use them yourself or give them as gifts.  They all use my Quick Win Hot Pad pattern.

Simple Fabric Ideas

Let’s go easiest first.  Simply choose a favorite print to use as your center square.  Then frame it, quilt it.  I stitched in the ditch.  Bind it.  Learn how here.  And your done!  Easy peasy! Quilted hot pad on cast iron pot.

Only slightly more difficult is to fussy cut your fabric for the center square.  I used a cute dog print by Tula Pink.  The dog reminded me of our family dog.  I even fussy cut a fire hydrant for the back, just for fun.fussy cut hot pad with Corning casserole dish

Scrap Busting Ideas

Busting your scraps is another way to sew up this homemade gift idea.  Try a string blockQuilted string hot pad with Corning casserole dish

Or a cheerful crumb block.Quilted hot pad from crumb fabric with cast iron pot.

Pieced Block Ideas

Of course you could go with the featured quilt block found in my Summer Nights Sampler Booklet.  It’s fun an funky.  I went with a dark background and bright prints.  But it could be fun to go with a holiday theme.  Try spooky prints for Halloween, reds and greens for Christmas, or red white and blue for the 4th of July.  Really the possibilities are endless.Quilted wonky star hot pad with muffins in pan

Finally you can use any of the small blocks form my many sampler booklets.  That is the great thing about these blocks.  They are all interchangeable. Try a traditional block, like a log cabin, rail fence or plus block.  Get sentimental with one of the many heart blocks.  I think one of the tree blocks would be great if you or someone you know has a cabin. I also like the idea of one of the flower blocks from Blooms and Baskets for a garden or tea party.

What will you create?  Pick up your Quick Win pattern at your local quilt shop and let the fun begin.
