Creative Play with Word Quilts

What do snuggly quilts, heartfelt messages and a bit of fun have in common?  The all come together in the whimsical world of word quilts.  Word quilts take fabric to create a memory or make a statement through patchwork or applique.  By offering a playful way to blend personal story telling, artistic expression and meaningful messages.  I love the world of possibility this opens up to me as I play with my scraps and stash.  Does it sound fun to you?

Why Word Quilts

I’ve used word quilts to express thoughts and emotions.  Creating this favorite quilt in cloth shares my belief that everyone is creative.  That we are all literally a spirit child of the most creative being in the universe.  Whether you create a tangible piece of art or something intangible like a relationship, we all have the power to create.

In addition I’ve had fun using them to tell a story with my unique personality.  The Tie Dyed Sheep is an example of this.  Where I combine the story of my grandma.  Who grew up on a sheep ranch and didn’t enjoy quilting with her mom and sisters.  With my son’s wild creativity tie dying everything and combine it into a quilt.

A word quilt can also be a soft way to make a hard statement.  Or use it to express love in a playful way.  Kiss me I’m Lucky was made to let my hubby know I love him and his bald spot.
