I hope you are enjoying my series on basic quilt blocks. This week’s tutorial features the classic, easy hourglass quilt block. I used jellyroll strips to create mine. Less cutting, and for someone that sees cutting as a the necessary evil precuts are king. Find great deals on precuts at the Fat Quarter Shop.
I’ve created several quilts that use the classic hourglass block. Two of my patterns use it as a part of a more complex block. Braveheart‘s star centers are hourglass blocks. While Indian Summer uses it to create the sunflower petals.
If your looking to create more fall themed quilts. Check out this post it has 15 fabulous fall projects from some of my favorite designers for you to choose from.
In addition Happy Hour is a free scrap busting tutorial that uses this simple block by it’s self. Isn’t it fun to see the many ways you can use the hourglass quilt block. What will you come up with?
Make sure your share your creations with me. I find it so much fun to see how you take what I teach and make it your own. Simply email me a pic. Or you can tag me on Instagram @emsscrapbag. Or if you belong to my group Facebook page you can share it there. I know everyone there would love to see it. In this time of social distancing it is fun to share and hear from other quilters. So I hope you will join us!
