If you’re like me your stash has an abundant amount of strips. You may have jellyrolls and honey buns. Your scrap bins probably have strips cut off from trimming up quilts or just from cutting out pieces. Today I’d like to share fun ideas for your fabric strips.
Blocks
First up strip friendly quilt blocks. The most obvious is the string block. Make it square or mix it up with this tutorial.
Then there is the classic log cabin block. I like to play with this block. I’ve made traditional log cabins, wonky log cabins, and quarter log cabins. Each is a great way to make a dent in your scrappy strips.
The traditional rail fence is another go to block for busting strips. Get double the milage when you make one of the rails out of scrappy strips. Like I did with Gradation and my Sail On Baby quilts.
Coin quilts are also strip friendly. I made a huge dent in my scrappy strips when I made Pasta Please.
Find more creative ways to sew up your scrappy strips in my Scrap Quilts book.
Gift ideas
In addition to quilt blocks I like to use fabric strips as ribbons on gifts.
I’ve also twisted fabric strips to make twine to use as drawstrings in bags
They are also fun to braid into a colorful, boho bracelet.
Or weave them into table toppers or placemats.
I hope this gets your creative juices flowing. And your ready to dive in and make something beautiful. If you would like more help busting your scraps. Be sure to join me for my FREE SCRAP BUSTING WORKSHOP. Be sure to save your spot.
