Rethinking Your Scraps
First off, your scraps are not as bad as you think. After all they are from fabric you loved when you bought it. You may just need help learning to combine all those colors and patterns. I offer a monthly workshop. Inside you’ll receive a tip and easy trick to enable combine your scraps with ease. You’ll discover how to make your scraps fun and easy to use. In addition you gain tons of inspiration to get your creative juices flowing. And did I mention this workshop is FREE! Be sure to save your spot.
Enhancing Your Scraps
Next, your scraps may just need a refresh. Sometimes you don’t have a color you want in your scrappy stash. I’m often lacking in yellow and purple. To solve this problem I’ll buy fat quarters in the color I need. Using my scrap sorting method I just need to make a single cut and they can go into my scrap bins. Say if I didn’t have the variety I needed to make one of the flowers or the sun in Bloom from my Scrap Quilts book. Then I would head to my local quilt shop and buy a fat quarter or two in the color or colors I needed. While I was there I might grab a few low volume fat quarters just for fun.
While in this Jacob’s ladder variation you could use up what you have in abundance. Then swap with friends to add variety. Encourage your local quilt shop or guild to have a scrap swap. This will build community while enhancing your scrap bins. Discover other scrap busting variations of the Jacob’s Ladder in my Scrappy Ladder to Success class. Where you’ll take one basic block twist it and turn it for 12 different quilt layouts. Then play with my simple to use color and value tools to create endless quilts.

A scrappy strip swap would also be fun. Use your new found strips in one of these quilts, Seven Sisters, Gradation, or my new Scrap Quilts book.
At your next sew in or retreat gather the crumbs that other quilters are planning on throwing away. These little treasures great with both of my books but make great star points and bird legs and beaks found in my Enchanted Forest pattern.
Have fun building community with other quilters while you refresh your scrap bins. Shop owners wanting to implement these ideas can purchase my wholesale patterns at EE Schenck.
