Do you have UFO’s and piles of fabric scrap that are no longer bringing you joy? Has you muse left? Would you like more spontaneity and joy in your quilting journey? What does creative play look like? If you think of children playing you will notice there isn’t a lot of planning going on. Things happen spontaneously as they build on what happened before. They are not concerned with the outcome. They are just having fun.
I’m all about finding the fun in my scrap bins. And I’m offering a FREE workshop, Playful Patchwork to help you discover the joy that comes from creating with your scraps and stash. We’ll puzzle out creative uses for traditional blocks through scale, value and improv. Tease out ways to make a statement through applique and words. All while winning at hide and seek with our scraps.
Traditional Blocks, Untraditional Play
Quilting is rich with history. There are so many antique quilts to draw inspiration from. We can honor quilters from the past by drawing on what they have done and giving it fresh eyes. Isn’t imitation the highest form of admiration?

Me and my great grandmother’s quilts. Her is done by hand. Mine by machine.
We can do this by playing with value. Simply changing where the light and dark fabrics are placed will have a huge impact on the look of the block.

Another way to play with traditional blocks is through scale. Taking one block and making it into a quilt. Mixing the sizes of a block, breaking free from uniformity. Creating movement and surprise.
