Quilt Competition Moving it Forward

A few weeks ago my friend Ruth, called to ask if I would be willing to be part of the Stitching Showdown ant UQSM.  Sure I’m up for a challenge.  Then she told me our name, Hair Brained Stitchers, and she wanted us to do something crazy with our hair.  Out of my comfort zone, but I’d already said yes.  If you follow my Instagram or watched us live on Facebook you may have seen said crazy hair.  Sorry I’m not showing it here.  I will show you the pretty fabric we had to work with.

We had from 10- 4:30 to create a quilt.  I wish I had more progress shots but we were sewing like made ladies once we got an idea and a rough sketch of what we were doing done.  What do you think this became?

We had some fine competition.  These were the Snippy Girls.  You might recognize Amber from Gigi’s Thimble.  Love those giant flowers with the ric rac.

The Homestead Quilters came up with this cute fish quilt.  I love the one swimming the wrong way.

Finally our quilt.  Do you see what that mess became?  Did you guess jellyfish tendrils?  And guess what we won!!!!

What did we win.  A cash prize plus each participant go this wonderful scissor set from Nuttall’s Bernina.

And all the scraps.  This is just my haul.  It was a fun day.  A little stressful at the end trying to get it all finished up.  It was so worth it.  What a fun day!  The quilts were auctioned and the proceeds went to Sew Much Hope.

Now that I’ve shared my fun.  I want to see what fun you’ve been having sewing along this past week.  Link up and share your progress.
