As a designer I find it fun to play with classic blocks and give them a twist. The majestic mountain block has been a favorite of mine. It may look like a complicated block. But with this simple hack it’s quick and easy.
I’ve created several designs using this ascending and descending block. In fact I’m working on a design right now using this amazing block. Watch for my new design in the December/January 2021 issue of Quick + Easy Quilts Magazine. It will have an Oriental feel. I’m calling it Lotus. I’m using Tula Pink fabric.
Here are a couple of examples of quilts I’ve made with this block. Above is Dahlia. Here I mixed up the strips to give it a scrappy feel. Below I mixed it with a chain block for Rhythm & Blues. A quilt I designed around my son, a drummer in a blues band.
I have a quick easy hack to make this block. It just takes two large squares. I often use layer cake squares. Find great deals on Layer cakes at the Fat Quarter shop. Then just sew, slash, and reassemble. Simple huh?
Watch my video to learn how. Then share what you create on my Facebook page. I’d love to see what you come up with.
Oh your video was a great “watch”…thanks for the tutorial…
Have a great Memorial Day weekend
Stay safe
