3 Simple Ways to Create Free Quilts

Do you feel you progress is slow?  Would you like to get more done?  Try these three simple methods to increase your productivity and enable you to create free quilts.

First try keeping a leaders and enders project going.   I enjoy this process.  It is scrap friendly and very easy to do. Just keep a bunch of squares at hand and sew a couple as you start and stop sewing.  Not only does a leader and ender project keep my machine from unthreading or having fabric bunch up as I start.  It saves on thread and you’d be amazed how quickly you create a bunch of blocks.  It’s like getting two quilts for the price of one.

The next method I use to get free quilts is to use my bonus half square triangles.  These little often cast off bits of fabric have so much potential.  Need help figuring out how to use them?  Try these 20 blocks with quilt layouts.  Or mix and match them into your own design.  I once did a ‘Plan B’ style quilt using my bonus half square triangles.

Which brings me to the third way to create free quilts, Plan B or orphan block quilts.  This type of quilt is like a puzzle.  If you are unsure of how to combine blocks of different sizes.  This video will help.  These quilts are full of interest and memories.  Use the blocks that you practice on, the ones that didn’t quilt fit in, or where just extra from other quilts.  Then use scrappy strip to make everything fit together.

Enjoy hours of productive sewing as you create free quilts.  Be sure to share what  you are making in the Facebook group.
