Did you realize that each quilt you make has a story. Whether planned or unintentional your quilts have a story to tell. From the choice of fabric and design to how the quilt is used a quilt story is a part of each quilt.
First the choice of fabric you use will say a lot about your quilt. Is it bright and happy,
calm and serene,
or bold and strong.
A scrap quilt is full of stories. The fabrics in the quilt brings a little story from the quilts they were leftover from.
The design you use is another element of your quilts story. Maybe your quilt’s story is simply I’m here to warm and comfort. Or maybe it is a representation of an event. Grandpa’s Wrench in Grandma’s garden was made to represent the three Thanksgivings my dad ended up in the emergency room just as dinner. Once he rolled the jeep, next he cut his hand in the shop, the last time he crashed on a four wheeler. He is now banned to the lazy boy until after dinner.
Mary’s Garden and my family reunion quilt are other examples of this kind of story. Each sew along quilt is a type of quilt story.
Or maybe a quilt’s story is a statement. Words quilts literally make a statement. Or just by the design, like these quilts celebrating Martin Luther King.
Next the finishing touches you include, like embellishments and a label help add to your the story.
But your quilt’s story doesn’t end there. It will continue for the life of your quilt. Enjoy making your quilt’s story a good one.
