Even if your space is small you can create a sewing space where creativity thrives. Enjoy these simple ideas to layout a space that will have you sewing comfortably for hours.
A Designated Spot
For creativity to thrive you need a designated spot. Even if that spot is a corner in one room. Having to set up and take out a sewing machine and all your supplies can put a real damper on creativity. And keep you from even starting. When my boys were little I set up my sewing machine in one corner of the room where they played. That way I could keep an eye on them while working on my projects. To keep curious hands and eyes away when I wasn’t working I simply covered the space with a quilt. While not perfect it did have an out of sight out of mind deterrent for my toddlers. 
Storage
Next you’ll want some storage containers. I like see through plastic containers. And if you have little ones you’ll want ones that are hard for little hands to open. That way you can keep your dangerous toys (rotary cutter, pins, needles, scissors, etc.) out of their hands. Project boxes are great for keeping your current project together.
These items can also be kept in a drawer with a child lock. Marking pens, tools for turning fabric and tape measures are other tools that will keep your creative process running smoothly.
Cutting & Pressing
If you have room a cutting and ironing station are nice to have. My son’s made me this one out of an IKEA storage shelve and board covered with Insulbright, and fabric. This tutorial will show you how. My cutting station, made by my dad also has storage underneath. But I used a old table for many years as my cutting station. 
Design Wall
A design wall can also spear creativity. If you don’t have room for a wall a foam board covered with batting, a felt backed table cloth tacked to the wall also work. I’ve even used my bed or floor.
