Garden Friends Mug Rugs

Need a quick win?  Want to find a home for fabric scraps?  Do you like to share your quilting talent with homemade gifts?  Then these garden friend mug rugs are for you.

What is a Mug Rug

Larger than a coaster, but smaller than a placemat they are a perfect way to use up scraps.  Giving you the opportunity to mix and match fabrics from previous projects. To unify mug rugs for a tea party or gathering try using the same background.  Or have a theme.  I choose garden friends.  Using blocks from my Fairy Garden Quilt.  I went with a bird, bumblebee, dragonfly, butterfly, and a snail.

I like to make mug rugs for several reasons.  First they are a quick finish.  Sometimes you need a quick win. Next they let me play with my favorite toy, my scraps.  A third reason is they add a bit of whimsy to my decor.  Finally they make a nice gift and are fun to exchange with friends.

Uses for Mug Rugs

These quilted treasures are useful as well.  They protect your table or desk from heat and spills.  Make snack time more enjoyable by giving your mug and snack a cute place to rest.  Let you show off your personal flare on your desk at work or home.  They can also be used as a candle mat.

Homemade gifts let those you love know how much you care.  Especially when care is taken to personalize the gift with a favorite color or theme.  Fill a mug with a yummy treat and give it as a birthday present, holiday gift or teacher appreciation.  Want more homemade gift ideas that use up your scraps?  Look here.
