The disappearing nine patch is another quilt block I have enjoyed playing with. It is simple to create. Yet has many elements that can be changed up to create many different quilts. My friend, Susan’s quilt is set in a traditional way. In this setting it makes a lovely quilt. But why stop there?
First try changing color placement in the nine patch will give a different effect on the overall look of your quilt. Lights in the center edges gives this effect, found in Reanna Lily’s quilt.
Verses darks as in Shannon’s quilt.
Next try twisting and turning the blocks. This is a great way to change the whole look of the quilt. Putting a quilt on point is a favorite setting of mine. I tried it with the disappearing nine patch. By adding an alternate block Mountain Blossoms was created. Here is a work in progress using the D9P with a on point setting.
Do these quilts get you excited to play with the disappearing nine patch block? AWESOME! Here is a video tutorial to get you started. Remember to share what you create on the Facebook page.
Next up if you are enjoying the September Sun sew along. Today’s bock finishes up the second column. Looking forward to seeing everyone’s progress. Remember! It’s not to late to join the fun.
Finally, I wanted to share some words of wisdom I heard recently. On my morning walks I listen to podcasts. While listing to Patrice Washington’s, Redefining Wealth, this statement floored me. Tell me what you think.
