When teaching about scrap quilting I encourage those who are a little hesitant to dive into the scrap bin and just let those scraps play together to choose a focus fabric. A fabric that speaks to them. Then to pull scraps based on the colors in that fabric.

That is basically what I did with this quilt. I had found the ocean fabric and then pulled from the scrap bins. When pulling fabrics do worry about being exact with color. In fact it is wise to have a wide color base. Making sure you have a good value scale. Meaning you have a wide range going form light to dark. If you are unsure. Just set your camera on it’s black and white setting. The camera will do all the work for you. You’ll easily be able to see if you grays from almost white to black.

Once I had pulled my fabric I used my AccuQuilt to cut it into usable sizes. Bigger chunks became simple squares. Small pieces became rail fence style blocks.
