Scrappy patchwork block tutorial

I learned this quick and easy way to make a 16 patch from Sarah of Confessions of a Fabric Addict. Her method uses two layer cakes squares and you end up with two 8″ finished blocks. Pretty cool! You can find pretty layer cakes at great prices at the Fat Quarter Shop.

Being a scrap quilter I had to take it a step further. So not only do I share her method. I turn mix and match to make a scrappy patchwork block tutorial. Use left over layer cake squares or cut your own. Accuquilt has a 10″ die so you can cut a bunch at one time.

I love this method to bust through leftover layer cake squares. Am I the only one that ends up with these? I keep them in a bin and when I have a bunch they become scrappy 16 patches. Several of our Quilty Hugs have used this method. Just Dessert and Fruition also use this quick and easy method.
