Improving my Free Motion Quilting Skills

I finally did it! After years of quilting my quilts on my domestic machine, I bought a longarm. The machine I chose was Handi Quilter’s Amara. While I have used a longarm before. I really had no idea how to use this amazing machine. So I signed up for Handi Quilter’s Longarm basics Retreat in an attempt to improve my free motion quilting skills.

I’m so happy I did. The instructors were amazing! I learned so much! I’m sharing a little of that new found knowledge for today’s Moving it Forward.

Day one we learned to thread the machine and tried some basic stitches.

Day two sew learned about tension and how to piece on your long arm. We created this little pillow. This method has my creative juices flowing. Watch for some quilt as you go string and strip busting in the future.

Day three we played as we incorporated the skills we had learned. Once I adjusted the handlebars to be more like quilting on my domestic machine. My free motion quilting skills improved. Here’s my play.

Now It’s your turn. Let us know what you are moving forward. Leave a comment here or add a picture and comment on the Facebook page.
