Moving It Forward

Who doesn’t love a half square triangle?  They are just so versatile, not to mention cute.  I recently cut out a bunch with my Go Cutter. That thing sure makes quick work of it.  Thank heavens!  Helps me get past the necessary evil and on to the fun stuff.

Once the fun began, my machine was whirling, and before I knew it I had a nice bunch of broken dishes blocks.  These blocks remind me of a story.  Let me share.

One Sunday, just before I was going to be heading off to college, my sister was in charge of setting the table. She had been told not to grab all the dishes at one time because, they would be too heavy.  Thinking she knew best and that it would save her time.  She did not listen to this wise advise.  As she grabbed the plates for our family she realized her mistake. Before she knew it she had broken all but three of my mom’s dishes.  Shocked and scared to death she stood in the mess.  Rather than scold and get angry my mom gave her a hug and told her she wanted new dishes anyway.  We ate on paper plates that day.  This story is still fondly told by both mother and daughter.  A happy memory made from disaster.  The three unbroken dishes went with me to college and mom got her new dishes.

It’s Monday and time to share what you are moving forward.  Link up and show us your progress.  I’m looking forward to it.

Sweet family memory! It will make you think of it often when you finish this wonderful quilt!

I whole heartedly agree with how fast and wonderful it is to cut triangles for the half square triangle blocks. I purchased the big one — It can cut 72 triangles at a time — well worth it since I was making one of Bonnie Hunter's quilts with lots of broken dish units. You've got a nice pile of blocks — now what? Love the story…
