Moving It Forward

The most important and exciting thing moving forward this week is that my baby begins her college career today. How did that happen?  I remember walking her to kindergarten just the other day. So many feeling associated with this momentous occasion.

As far as quilting goes, in spare moments I added to my wonk maverick stars.  I auditioned a few mini stars but I think I will be nixing that idea. Maybe I’ll make a mini version with the minis. It might make a cute wall hanging. I only have five more of the larger squares to make a good sized child’s quilt.

In addition to making maverick stars I had a fun time with my first Free Spirit Class atK &H Quilt Shoppe

The ladies did a beautiful job making their roses. I’m really looking forward to this year long venture. You can find the patternhere.

I also had a great time attending Neon Circus, a Brooks & Dunn cover band concert, with some girlfriends. Oh what a night! We rocked it and spent the night dancing to their great music.

I’m excited to see how your week moved forward. Link up and show us what you’ve advanced in your sewing room. Can’t wait to see.

It is really difficult when our babies grow up. There is light at the end of the tunnel though. If you have no other children at home, you will enjoy the quiet after the initial shock. You will enjoy more time to your self after you realize, "no I haven't forgotten to do anything" and the lost feeling fades. The biggest plus for me, more quilts. With no school fees, extra gas, extra groceries, higher utilities and everything else that is attached to having children I now have money to spend on fabric and Improving my sewing space. As moms we are so accustomed to doing without and our world revolving around someone else that we have to re-learn how to live again. It has taken me a couple years but I must say I am enjoying "ME" now.

It is emotional isn't it. When I dropped my last child off at her college, I also retired and I went home and thought, now what are all of the things I wanted to do if I just had a couple of extra minutes. It takes quilt awhile to adjust. I love your projects. Is there a pattern for the rose?

Those years go so quickly. It seems like only yesterday that we were bringing them home from the hospital for the first time.

Your scrappy stitching is looking great!

Love the stars and the roses! And, congratulations on your college bound girl. I think that was my biggest "life milestone". Both my daughter and I cried as we left her at her dorm that first day. It's all good!

Love your wonky maverick stars! If it's any consolation, once 'my baby' left home, she came back, and back, maybe 6-7 times! She'smarried now with her own little family so the to-ing & fro-ing finally stopped! And now we have the grandchildren…
